The Blair Athol Distillery is a single malt whiskey distillery in Scotland. It is used in Bell's whiskey and is usually also available in 12 year old bottles. The distillery is located at the southern end of Pitlochry in Perthshire, near the River Tummel.
Founded in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson, originally called 'Aldour', after the burning of Allt Dour, the distillery draws water, but it closed shortly after opening.
The distillery reopened and changed ownership to John Robertson in 1825.
It was sold several times in the subsequent period, until the distillery closed in 1932. Arthur Bell and Sons bought the mothballed distillery, but did not return to open until it was rebuilt in 1949.
In 1973, the distillery expanded and added two more stills to the previous two.

Of the character of the malt, Stephanie Macleod, master blender at Dewar's and master maltmaster at Aberfeldy, once said that "it all goes back to the politics of the new brewing spirit," which comes out of the copper stills as a clear liquid. before seeing wood, and the “aroma of grass, fruits and grains” that permeates the distillery.
“When you have a glass of Aberfeldy, you are almost transported there.”
But the combination of “a good new spirit”, good casks and the right amount of time and rest in these casks” is what really makes Aberfeldy great.

Built 125 years ago by the sons of the brand's founder, John Dewar, the Aberfeldy distillery near Speyside is the only Scotch whiskey distillery ever built by the Dewar family, and the whiskey it produces is one of the "heart malts" of the well-known Deward's Blended whiskey.
The site of the distillery, just five miles from John Dewar's birthplace, was originally a brewery. More importantly, it has a world-class water source, Pitilie Burn, known for having deposits of gold (gold is still mined there today), from which whiskey is made.
This matches well with Aberfeldy's golden honey notes, hence why it is known as "The Golden Drink."

Besides creating rare, pure and enlightened whisky, they have a deep commintement with Fettercairn Forest, rooted in their home, the land, and its people – and it’s growing more than purely Scottish oak trees. It’s helping to grow skills and businesses in local community, too.
