This is the large mill where Bunnahabhain malt is turned into grist.
Porteus was a brand of malt mill that began operating in the 1900s and saw its demise not long after.
It was made from high-quality materials and the parts fitted together beautifully. Their products were so good and lasted so long that they effectively put themselves out of business.
Porteus malt mills never broke and never needed replacing, and as every distillery in Scotland had one, there was no further business.

Founded in 1897, Glentauchers was one of the distilleries started by the highly successful blender James Buchanan, with the design overseen by the legendary Charles Doig.
Doig was a true innovator in distillery architecture and was responsible for the attractive pagoda roof (or 'Doig's Vent') seen on most distilleries in Scotland today.
Originally, these roofs were designed to draw air up through the barley bed above the kiln, but since almost all of the in-house malthouses have closed, they are now purely ornamental.

As an expert in ageing, Glen Moray Distillery has been exploring how different casks can transform its single malt whisky for over 120 years.

Records show that the first Glen Moray, distilled in 1897, was aged in an unusually wide variety of casks.

Today, the distillery still matures its whisky in a variety of casks, to bring many different flavours to its classic Speyside style.
